Crater Ngorongoro: Africa’s Wild Heart

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is often referred to as the “Garden of Eden” due to its remarkable biodiversity.

This volcanic caldera is the largest intact crater in the world and offers a unique chance to observe a diverse range of species in their native habitat.

You’ll see a variety of beautiful animals, including lions and elephants. It’s ideal for nature enthusiasts and anybody looking to view African animals up close, securely, and excitingly.

These are the top attractions to see in Ngorongoro.

  • Ngorongoro Animals: Home to abundant large mammals, including lions, hyenas, wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, elephants, hippos, and more. Leopards and black rhinos are also present, though harder to spot.
  • Ngorongoro Highlands: The Ngorongoro highlands in the east boast extinct volcanic peaks, including Lolmalasin at 3,648 meters, the third-highest peak in Tanzania. The Crater Highlands also offer access to rainforests and stunning scenic views.
  • The Maasai Tribe: the homeland of the Nilotic-speaking Maasai, who believe in benevolent Engai Narok, the “Black God,” and vengeful Engai Nanyokie, the “Red God.” They are archetypal East African pastoralists and consider themselves the rightful owners of all cattle in the world.
  • Olduvai Gorge: Olduvai Gorge, where the Leakey family found remains of early humans dating back 1.75 million years. The historical museum displays replicas of interesting hominid fossils and extinct animals that roamed the plains.
  • Shifting Sands: The remarkable dune is composed of volcanic ash from Oldonyo Lengai, which is moving magnetic sand according to wind direction.
  • Ndutu Plain area: The open grassland is located on the north side of Ngorongoro and the south side of Serengeti, which is the breeding site for the migrating animals of Serengeti.
  • Other attractions are the Laetoli footprints, the Olmoti and Empakaai craters, Nasera Rock, Olkarien Gorge, Lake Ndutu, and Lake Masek.

6 Days of Amazing Safari
We had a great tour with JM Tours. They are always willing to make your Safari the best it can be! Bashiri was the best guide and driver you could ask for! He kept the vehicle in good working order, and I still do not know how he spotted everything we saw. It was amazing!
