6 Days of Amazing Safari
We had a great tour with JM Tours. They are always willing to make your Safari the best it can be! Bashiri was the best guide and driver you could ask for! He kept the vehicle in good working order, and I still do not know how he spotted everything we saw. It was amazing!

Mikumi National Park is located in the Morogoro region of south-central Tanzania. It is along the major highway to Zambia, making it easily accessible by car. The park is approximately a three- to four-hour drive from Dar es Salaam, making it Tanzania’s most accessible national park.

You can reach the park by driving yourself, joining an organized safari excursion, or using public transportation to surrounding towns and then entering the park.

Mikumi is best visited during the dry season, which lasts from June to October. During this period, animals congregate near water sources, making them easier to spot, and the roads are in better condition. However, the park can be visited at any time of year.

The rainy season, which runs from November to May, features lush landscapes, abundant birdlife, and fewer visitors, although some roads may be difficult to navigate.

Mikumi is an excellent site to watch large creatures such as elephants, lions, leopards, and buffalo (but no rhinos). You may also view enormous herds of zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, impalas, and other antelopes. The park also features hippos, crocodiles, and wild dogs, though they are difficult to spot.

There are nearly 400 bird species to see, including the gorgeous lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated longclaw, and bateleur eagle.

Yes, Mikumi is a great location for a southern Tanzania safari. Many visitors combine it with other parks such as Ruaha (Tanzania’s largest), the Udzungwa Mountains (renowned for primates and trekking), and the Selous Game Reserve.

Mikumi serves as a wonderful starting or stopping point when touring multiple parks because it is conveniently located along a major route.

It is critical to bring neutral-colored clothing such as khaki, brown, or green. Wear long sleeves to shield yourself from the sun and insects. Bring good walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, binoculars, a camera with spare batteries or memory cards, and any personal medications you require.

If you visit during the rainy season, bring a raincoat and waterproof baggage. A flashlight is also useful at night.
