Tanzania Inbound Travel Insurance

Tanzania mandatory inbound travel insurance

The Mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance for Visiting Tanzania.

Tanzania has recently announced an important change to entry requirements that will affect your clients’ travel.

  • Starting 1 October 2026, all visitors arriving in mainland Tanzania must have inbound travel insurance.
  • This local policy applies even if you already have international or credit card travel insurance.

Who does this affect?

All visitors entering mainland Tanzania. The cover excludes all foreigners who are residents of the East African Community (EAC) Partner States or Southern African Development Community (SADC) Partner States.

What does it cost?

US$44 per adult. Infants (0-2) are free. Children (3-17) receive a 50% discount. Groups of 10 or more receive a 10% discount on adult premiums.

How long is it valid?

Cover takes effect on arrival and remains valid for up to 92 days, with multiple entries permitted.

Where do I get this?

The government has provided dedicated online platforms.

Visitors entering the United Republic of Tanzania through Mainland Tanzania will need to obtain inbound travel insurance from the National Insurance Corporation (NIC): https://inbound.nicinsurance.co.tz/

Visitors entering Tanzania through Zanzibar will need to obtain insurance from the designated provider, the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC): https://inbound.visitzanzibar.go.tz/

NB: The insurance you need usually depends on your first point of entry into the United Republic of Tanzania. You only need to get it once (valid for 92 days), and it will cover both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar Island, giving you peace of mind during your travels.

What is covered?

Mandatory inbound travel insurance covers financial protection in case of emergency medical expenses, loss of baggage, repatriation, and evacuation.

What information do I need?

Passport number, full names and dates of birth, nationality and country of residence, travel dates, purpose of travel, contact and emergency details, and first point of entry into Tanzania.
